Karunyam Website
I led the end-to-end redesign of Karunyam’s website, aiming to improve accessibility, build trust, and strengthen community engagement. I focused on creating a warm, intuitive, and user-friendly digital experience that makes it easier for people to donate, volunteer, and access palliative care services.

Role
UI/UX Designer
Challenge — Karunyam, a palliative care organisation serving 3,150+ patients across Kozhikode, had no digital presence that matched the depth of its work. Donors couldn't easily give, volunteers had no way to join, and families in need couldn't easily find help.
Strategy — Design a website that leads with human impact, builds trust through transparency, and removes every barrier between the visitor and the action they came to take: donate, volunteer, or seek care.
Result — A warm, structured, accessible web presence that communicates 18 years of community care with clarity and compassion.
Understanding the Users
Three distinct user groups shaped the design decisions.
Donors — Local & Diaspora
People willing to support Karunyam, including members of its Gulf chapters in Qatar and Bahrain, needed a trustworthy and straightforward way to donate.
Patients & Families
People seeking palliative care often arrive during emotionally difficult situations. They need clear information about available services and how to reach the organisation without unnecessary complexity.
Volunteers & Community Members
People interested in contributing their time needed a simple way to understand volunteering opportunities and get involved.
Key Design Decisions
I focused on creating a simple, compassionate experience by highlighting Karunyam’s impact and mission first, while making key actions like donating, volunteering, and finding services easy to access. Service information was organised around the needs of patients and families, using clear and simple language. Real stories, testimonials, and the organisation’s history helped build trust, while a warm colour palette, thoughtful typography, and clear visual hierarchy created a calm experience that reflects Karunyam’s philosophy of “Care Beyond Cure.”
Simplicity Wins

Key Learnings
This project helped me understand how important trust, empathy, and simplicity are in non-profit design. I learned to think more about the emotions and needs of people seeking support, and how clear information and easy navigation can reduce their effort. Working on Karunyam also improved my design sense by teaching me to create stronger visual hierarchy, use colour and typography more thoughtfully, and balance emotional storytelling with usability. Overall, I became more intentional about designing experiences that are not just visually appealing, but also meaningful and helpful to people.
